I have a guilty secret. I enjoy deleting blogs from my links list. I have to admit it. It’s a little like spring cleaning. Or getting my head buzzed. Of course, trimming the list calls for a certain amount of decorum. You have to allow a reasonable amount of time to pass before you can assume someone’s not coming back. Every blogger probably has their own criteria, but for me the cut-off is around six weeks. More if it’s a friend’s blog. Sometimes, like in the case of Kurt, I hold out hope long after their retirement is clear. Sometimes they come back. Usually they don’t. But hoping for a shorter links list is rather pointless. Like young Hollywood, bloggerdom always has hot young upstarts ready to take your place, and though I deleted twelve blogs today, I added seven. Or eight, or something. I can’t quite keep up. I smile ruefully at that day, nearly two years ago, when I started dogpoet. I told my friend Jonno about it, and he told me he had a rule; he’d wait a month before he’d add me to his links list. To see if I had the staying power. And I knew him. Two years later, I see his point.
