Party in the Comments!

I’m sorry, U2. Forgive me, The Pogues. The whole time we were in Ireland, I couldn’t get Beyoncé out of my frickin’ head. After we rented the car, I used “Irreplaceable” as a gentle yet insistent reminder on which lane to drive in at all times.

“To the left, to the left.”

Speaking of music, I’ve lost track of how many times the Manly Fireplug and I have gotten laid to the sounds of Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, and Peter Gabriel’s soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ (seriously, try it sometime).

So I’m soliciting suggestions for Best Sex Music Ever. Fire away.

well… you’ve already covered Massive Attack which is one of my enduring favourites for getting laid to. Other than a few fashionable entries into the mix that seem to disappear as quickly as they are added, I would have to suggest some Portishead. Preferably their live album.

  2. Dan:

Hmmm…well, I haven’t actually tried this, but I think Sigur Ros might make for good sex music. It’s very atmospheric, otherworldly and emotional.

  3. david:

I gotta go with Roxy Music, I think.

  4. eric55:

I’ll have to give Boards of Canada a good listen…saw their site and haven’t given them some time to sink into my head yet…That said…best screw music for me this season has been Trentmoller, his new compilation album makes for great slow hypnotic sex.

  5. Hotrod:

I would have to go with something more recent like Nine Inch Nails-Fu@k You Like An Animal…

  6. Sonder:

Our 2007 shag album has been ‘Out of the Woods’ by Tracey Thorn. Fabulously sexy and deep… Just like good sex should be.

  7. B.:

I lost my virginity to the KISS album, “Lick It Up,” which I thought was appropriate. Garbriel’s, “Last Temptation of Christ,” is a seriously beautiful (and sexy!) work. I thought I was the only one who knew that.

  8. gish:

for some romantic sex I think the best album is Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós.

I used to love having sex to portishead too.

  9. Todd:

I was first introduced to Gabriel’s “Passion” about 14 years ago by a guy I was then dating. I’ve done my best over the years to share it with particularly worthy bed-partners. Every one of them has been surprised it was written for the Last Temptation Christ, but all agree it is staggeringly beautiful and sensual. It invariably leads to jokes about the “passion.”

  10. Steven Patterson:

OK, I’m going to brand myself forever as a complete freak, but the greatest sex music of all time is Alexander Scriabin’s POEM OF ECSTASY. About 22 minutes. Starts softly, then relentlessly builds, surges, and falls away. Like edging – taking you right to the brink, then pulling back, only to slam back into you with even greater cumulative power. Times when it’s like thousands of tiny tongues just flicking away and others when it’s like you’re in the ring getting the shit beat out of you. It’s music you can ride like a wave & if you let it, it carries you to some amazing places. But I’m sure it would be an acquired taste for most.

  11. Aaron:

Sinead O’Connor’s, “Put Your Hands On Me”

  12. Jess:

I honestly don’t have any music I particularly like when getting laid. My favorite sound is my other half panting and crying out very dirty things. ;)

  13. kyle:

passion has always been the best sex music!!!

  14. Chris:

    “Foolish Beat” by Debbie Gibson.

  15. Rick:

Anything by ‘Coil,’ but especially ‘Love’s Secret Domain.’

  16. twombly:

anything sarah mclachlan but i especially love ‘possesion’.

  17. homer:

    Rough sex? Nine Inch Nails.

  18. aka frank:

Try The Stone Roses self-titled first album.

  19. Huntington:

If you were still getting stoned, I’d suggest Love And Rockets, especially Express. Might still work, come to think of it.

  20. Jonathan:

Iggy and the Stooges’ “Raw Power”

  21. TW:

It’s only one track but check out Offer Nissim’s Club Mix of Maya’s “Be my Boyfriend”. Raw, primal, and very Very VERY dirty…

  22. Dingo:

    Underworld – Dubnobasswithmyheadman

Spiritualized – Pure Phase, Laser Guided Melodies, Complete Works Vol.1

Working For A Nuclear Free City – Businessmen & Ghosts

    Doves – Lost Souls

Cocteau Twins – Heaven Or Las Vegas

    Air – Moon Safari

Craig Armstong – The Space Between Us

    Goldfrapp – Black Cherry

All road tested with excellent results…

  23. wolfer:

    Here goes;

    Kraftwerk – “Autobahn” – 20+minutes long and grooving…

Bowie – “putting out fire with gasoline” and the entire soundtrack from “Cat People” – rough and tumble..

KMF – “Last train to transcentral” – locomotion unleashed…

I used to mix music for the early days of “Mike’s Night Gallery” before the Mayor tried to shut it down… so I know a lot of people got off to some of my favorite sex tunes

  24. clinton:

Late. Halloween night, 1991. The El. A swarthy boy in a biker jacket with a careless glance. A sparse apartment downtown near the State Street stop.

Cocteau Twins, the box set. The entire box set.

  25. rob:

For sex, my partner and I generally prefer dancey-housey stuff (Matinee compilations, Deep Dish), darker music with a beat (Starseeds, Burial, Colder), post-Pink Floyd stoner music (Sigur Ros, Radiohead), electronic noise (Pan Sonic, Murcof), or good ol’ r-n-r (Led Zep).

    A random list:
    Sigur Ros
    JD Slater
    Led Zep
    Deep Dish: Toronto
    Starseeds: Parallel Life
    Pan Sonic
    Black Strobe: A Remix Collection
    Colder: Again
    Massive Attack
    Grace Jones
Flying Lizards: The Secret Dub Life of Flying Lizards
    Burial: Untrue

Diva by Annie Lennox. Really good, when we can plan that far in advance.
