SF WEEKLY’s BEST BARBERSHOP 2009

Joe’s Barbershop

the Manly Fireplug's New Shop

“It should surprise no one that gay men commonly harbor barbershop fantasies. If you’re like a lot of guys who languished through closeted childhoods in Middle America, then you spent every third or fourth Saturday waiting with your Dad and brothers and a roomful of other men for Tom or Bob or Gus to cut your hair. The one consolation was that — at the end of all your waiting — a big, strong man rewarded you by making you sit still while he massaged your neckline with a pair of clippers. Your imagination did the rest. Joe’s Barbershop (newly located near the Church Street Muni station) closes the gap between fantasy and reality, offering high-and-tight haircuts by guys who look like they’re more at home on Folsom Street than Castro Street. At $25, these aren’t the cheapest croppings around, but it’s not a bad price for a buzz cut that feels like a hot one-night stand.”

Hey all you bears. Even if you’re bald on top, I know Joe trims back hair too. Just in case yours is getting a little unruly.
